והוה בתר כן ולאבשלום בר דוד אחתא שפרתא ושמה תמר ורחמה אמנון בר דוד:
dwd br amnwn wrkhmh thmr wshmh shprtha akhtha dwd br wlabshlwm kn bthr whwh
After this, Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

ועקת לאמנון לאתמרעא בדיל תמר אחתיה ארי בתולתא היא והוה מכסא בעיני אמנון למעבד לה מדעם:
mdem lh lmebd amnwn beyny mksa whwh hya bthwltha ary akhthyh thmr bdyl lathmrea lamnwn weqth
Amnon was so troubled that he became sick because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her.

ולאמנון שושבינא ושמיה יונדב בר שמעה אחוהי דדוד ויונדב גבר חכים לחדא:
lkhda khkym gbr wywndb ddwd akhwhy shmeh br ywndb wshmyh shwshbyna wlamnwn
But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.

ואמר ליה מה דין את כדין חשוך בר מלכא בצפר בצפר הלא תחוי לי ואמר ליה אמנון ית תמר אחתיה דאבשלום אחי אנא רחם:
rkhm ana akhy dabshlwm akhthyh thmr yth amnwn lyh wamr ly thkhwy hla btspr btspr mlka br khshwk kdyn ath dyn mh lyh wamr
He said to him, “Why, son of the king, are you so sad from day to day? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

ואמר ליה יהונדב שכב על שוויך ואתמרע וייתי אבוך למחזך ותימר ליה תיתי כען תמר אחתי ותיכלינני לחמא ותעביד לעיני ית סעודתא בדיל דאחזי ואכול מן ידה:
ydh mn wakwl dakhzy bdyl sewdtha yth leyny wthebyd lkhma wthyklynny akhthy thmr ken thythy lyh wthymr lmkhzk abwk wyythy wathmre shwwyk el shkb yhwndb lyh wamr
Jonadab said to him, “Lay down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to see you, tell him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”

ושכיב אמנון ואתמרע ואתא מלכא למחזיה ואמר אמנון למלכא תיתי כען תמר אחתי ותחלוט לעיני תרתין חליטתא ואכול מן ידה:
ydh mn wakwl khlyTtha thrthyn leyny wthkhlwT akhthy thmr ken thythy lmlka amnwn wamr lmkhzyh mlka watha wathmre amnwn wshkyb
So Amnon lay down and faked being sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”

ושלח דוד לות תמר לביתא למימר אזילי כען לבית אמנון אחוך ועבידי ליה סעודתא:
sewdtha lyh webydy akhwk amnwn lbyth ken azyly lmymr lbytha thmr lwth dwd wshlkh
Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Go now to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.”

ואזלת תמר בית אמנון אחוהא והוא שכיב ונסיבת ית לישא ולשת וחלטת לעינוהי ובשילת ית חליטתא:
khlyTtha yth wbshylth leynwhy wkhlTth wlshth lysha yth wnsybth shkyb whwa akhwha amnwn byth thmr wazlth
So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. She took dough, kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

ונסיבת ית מסריתא ואריקת קדמוהי ולא אבא למיכל ואמר אמנון אפיקו כל אנש מעילוי ואפיקו כל אנש מעילוהי:
meylwhy ansh kl wapyqw meylwy ansh kl apyqw amnwn wamr lmykl aba wla qdmwhy waryqth msrytha yth wnsybth
She took the pan and poured them out before him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, “Have all men leave me.” Then every man went out from him.

ואמר אמנון לתמר אעילי סעודתא לאידרון בית משכבא ואכול מן ידיך ונסיבת תמר ית חליטתא דעבדת ואעילת לאמנון אחוהא לאידרון בית משכבא:
mshkba byth laydrwn akhwha lamnwn waeylth debdth khlyTtha yth thmr wnsybth ydyk mn wakwl mshkba byth laydrwn sewdtha aeyly lthmr amnwn wamr
Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the room, that I may eat from your hand.” Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the room to Amnon her brother.

וקריבת ליה למיכל ואתקיף בה ואמר לה עולי שכיבי עמי אחתי:
akhthy emy shkyby ewly lh wamr bh wathqyp lmykl lyh wqrybth
When she had brought them near to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister!”

ואמרת ליה אחי בבעו לא תענני ארי לא מתעבד כן בישראל לא תעבד ית קלנא הדין:
hdyn qlna yth thebd la byshral kn mthebd la ary thenny la bbew akhy lyh wamrth
She answered him, “No, my brother, do not force me! For no such thing ought to be done in Israel. Don’t you do this folly!

ואנא לאן אוביל ית חסודי ואת תהי כחד מן שטיא בישראל וכען מלל כען עם מלכא ארי לא ימנעינני מנך:
mnk ymneynny la ary mlka em ken mll wken byshral shTya mn kkhd thhy wath khswdy yth awbyl lan wana
As for me, where would I carry my shame? And as for you, you will be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”

ולא אבא לקבלא מנה ותקיף מנה ועניה ושכיב עמה:
emh wshkyb wenyh mnh wthqyp mnh lqbla aba wla
However, he would not listen to her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

וסנאה אמנון סנאתא רבתא לחדא ארי סגיאה סנאתא די סנאה מרחמתא דרחימה ואמר לה אמנון קומי אזילי:
azyly qwmy amnwn lh wamr drkhymh mrkhmtha snah dy snatha sgyah ary lkhda rbtha snatha amnwn wsnah
Then Amnon hated her with exceedingly great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Arise, be gone!”

ואמרת ליה על עיסק בישתא רבתא הדא מאוחרנתא דעבדתא עמי את אמר לשלחותי ולא אבא לקבלא מנה:
mnh lqbla aba wla lshlkhwthy amr ath emy debdtha mawkhrntha hda rbtha byshtha eysq el lyh wamrth
She said to him, “Not so, because this great wrong in sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me!” But he would not listen to her.

וקרא ית עולימיה משומשניה ואמר שלחו כען ית דא מלותי לברא ואגיף דשא בתרהא:
bthrha dsha wagyp lbra mlwthy da yth ken shlkhw wamr mshwmshnyh ewlymyh yth wqra
Then he called his servant who ministered to him, and said, “Now put this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.”

ועלה כתונא דפסי ארי כן לבשן בנת מלכא בתולתא כרדוטין ואפיק יתה משומשניה לברא ואגיף דשא בתרהא:
bthrha dsha wagyp lbra mshwmshnyh ythh wapyq krdwTyn bthwltha mlka bnth lbshn kn ary dpsy kthwna welh
She had a garment of various colors on her, for the king’s daughters who were virgins dressed in such robes. Then his servant brought her out and bolted the door after her.

ונסיבת תמר קטמא על רישה וכתונא דפסי דעלה בזעת ושויאת ידה על רישה ואזלת מיזל וצוחת:
wtswkhth myzl wazlth ryshh el ydh wshwyath bzeth delh dpsy wkthwna ryshh el qTma thmr wnsybth
Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of various colors that was on her; and she laid her hand on her head and went her way, crying aloud as she went.

ואמר לה אבשלום אחוהא האמינון אחוך הוה עמך וכען אחתי שתוקי אחוך הוא לא תשוין ית לבך לפתגמא הדין ויתיבת תמר וצדיא בית אבשלום אחוהא:
akhwha abshlwm byth wtsdya thmr wythybth hdyn lpthgma lbk yth thshwyn la hwa akhwk shthwqy akhthy wken emk hwh akhwk hamynwn akhwha abshlwm lh wamr
Absalom her brother said to her, “Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother. Don’t take this thing to heart.” So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.

ומלכא דוד שמע ית כל פתגמיא האילן ותקיף ליה לחדא:
lkhda lyh wthqyp hayln pthgmya kl yth shme dwd wmlka
But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.
22
ולא מליל אבשלום עם אמנון למביש ועד טב ארי סני אבשלום ית אמנון על עיסק דעני ית תמר אחתיה:
akhthyh thmr yth deny eysq el amnwn yth abshlwm sny ary Tb wed lmbysh amnwn em abshlwm mlyl wla
Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

והוה לזמן תרתין שנין והוו גזזין לאבשלום במישר חצור עם בית אפרים וזמין אבשלום לכל בני מלכא:
mlka bny lkl abshlwm wzmyn aprym byth em khtswr bmyshr labshlwm gzzyn whww shnyn thrthyn lzmn whwh
After two full years, Absalom had sheep shearers in Baal Hazor, which is beside Ephraim; and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

ואתא אבשלום לות מלכא ואמר הא כען גזזין לעבדך ייזיל כען מלכא ועבדוהי עם עבדך:
ebdk em webdwhy mlka ken yyzyl lebdk gzzyn ken ha wamr mlka lwth abshlwm watha
Absalom came to the king and said, “See now, your servant has sheep shearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant.”

ואמר מלכא לאבשלום לא ברי לא כען ניזיל כלנא ולא נתקיף עלך ואתקיף ביה ולא אבה למיזל וברכיה:
wbrkyh lmyzl abh wla byh wathqyp elk nthqyp wla klna nyzyl ken la bry la labshlwm mlka wamr
The king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let’s not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.

ואמר אבשלום ולא ייזיל כען עמנא אמנון אחי ואמר ליה מלכא למא ייזיל עמך:
emk yyzyl lma mlka lyh wamr akhy amnwn emna ken yyzyl wla abshlwm wamr
Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” The king said to him, “Why should he go with you?”

ואתקיף ביה אבשלום ושלח עמיה ית אמנון וית כל בני מלכא:
mlka bny kl wyth amnwn yth emyh wshlkh abshlwm byh wathqyp
But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.
28
ופקיד אבשלום ית עולימוהי למימר חזו כען כד ישפר לבא דאמנון בחמרא ואימר לכון קטולו ית אמנון ותקטלון יתיה לא תדחלון הלא ארי אנא פקדית יתכון אתקיפו והוו לגברין גברין:
gbryn lgbryn whww athqypw ythkwn pqdyth ana ary hla thdkhlwn la ythyh wthqTlwn amnwn yth qTwlw lkwn waymr bkhmra damnwn lba yshpr kd ken khzw lmymr ewlymwhy yth abshlwm wpqyd
Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Mark now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!”

ועבדו עולימי אבשלום לאמנון כמא דפקד אבשלום וקמו כל בני מלכא ורכיבו אנש על כודנתיה ואפכו:
wapkw kwdnthyh el ansh wrkybw mlka bny kl wqmw abshlwm dpqd kma lamnwn abshlwm ewlymy webdw
The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man got up on his mule and fled.
30
והוה עד דאינון באורחא ושמועתא אתת לות דוד למימר קטל אבשלום ית כל בני מלכא ולא אשתאר מנהון חד:
khd mnhwn ashthar wla mlka bny kl yth abshlwm qTl lmymr dwd lwth athth wshmwetha bawrkha daynwn ed whwh
While they were on the way, the news came to David, saying, “Absalom has slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left!”
31
וקם מלכא ובזע ית לבושוהי ושכיב על ארעא וכל עבדוהי מעתדין כד מבזעין לבושיהון:
lbwshyhwn mbzeyn kd methdyn ebdwhy wkl area el wshkyb lbwshwhy yth wbze mlka wqm
Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.
32
ואתיב יונדב בר שמעה אחוהי דדוד ואמר לא יימר רבוני ית כל עולימיא בני מלכא קטלו ארי אמנון בלחודוהי מית ארי בלבא דאבשלום הות כמנא מיומא דעני ית תמר אחתיה:
akhthyh thmr yth deny mywma kmna hwth dabshlwm blba ary myth blkhwdwhy amnwn ary qTlw mlka bny ewlymya kl yth rbwny yymr la wamr ddwd akhwhy shmeh br ywndb wathyb
Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered, “Don’t let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
33
וכען לא ישוי רבוני מלכא על לביה פתגמא למימר כל בני מלכא מיתו אלהין אמנון בלחודוהי מית:
myth blkhwdwhy amnwn alhyn mythw mlka bny kl lmymr pthgma lbyh el mlka rbwny yshwy la wken
Now therefore don’t let my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead; for only Amnon is dead.”

וערק אבשלום וזקף עולימא סכואה ית עינוהי וחזא והא עם סגי אתן מאורח מאחורוהי מסטר טורא:
Twra msTr makhwrwhy mawrkh athn sgy em wha wkhza eynwhy yth skwah ewlyma wzqp abshlwm werq
But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him.
35
ואמר יונדב למלכא הא בני מלכא אתו כפתגמא דעבדך כן הוה:
hwh kn debdk kpthgma athw mlka bny ha lmlka ywndb wamr
Jonadab said to the king, “Behold, the king’s sons are coming! It is as your servant said.”
36
והוה כשיציותיה למללא והא בני מלכא אתו וארימו קלהון ובכו ואף מלכא וכל עבדוהי בכו בכי סגיאה לחדא:
lkhda sgyah bky bkw ebdwhy wkl mlka wap wbkw qlhwn warymw athw mlka bny wha lmlla kshytsywthyh whwh
As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.
37
ואבשלום ערק ואזל לות תלמי בר עמיהוד מלכא דגשור ואתאבל על בריה כל יומיא:
ywmya kl bryh el wathabl dgshwr mlka emyhwd br thlmy lwth wazl erq wabshlwm
But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. David mourned for his son every day.
38
ואבשלום ערק ואזל לגשור והוה תמן תלת שנין:
shnyn thlth thmn whwh lgshwr wazl erq wabshlwm
So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
